What does a medieval abbess have in common with Dorothy Patterson?
You'll have to wait till March 18 to find out, but until then, PRE-ORDER BONUSES for Becoming the Pastor's Wife are here!!
After two years of writing, 150 pastor’s wife books, 5 archive trips, and a handful of interviews, Becoming the Pastor’s Wife: How Marriage Replaced Ordination as a Woman’s Path to Ministry is finished! I submitted final edits last week and answered final queries today.
I cannot tell you how proud I am of this book. It sweeps history from the first century through the medieval and Reformation era to the present, tackling the history of women’s ordination and explaining how the struggle for women to be pastors connects to the rise of the pastor’s wife role. It tells the stories of women that have been buried not only in the medieval past but also in the modern SBC archives—shedding haunting light on the modern SBC sex abuse scandal. The Making of Biblical Womanhood told you a story that I already knew, a story I had been teaching and researching for over a decade. Becoming the Pastor’s Wife tells you a story I didn’t know until I found it in the archives.
As I have written in the conclusion to the introduction:
“Becoming the Pastor’s Wife is the history of how Christian women gained a new and important leadership role.
But it is also the history of how this gain came at a cost for some women, too.
Both the cost and the gain are bigger than we have yet realized.”
We still have a few months to go before release day, but I can tell you that there will be some pretty exciting announcements coming up—the first of which is that I can share pre-order bonuses with you!!!
a pink t-shirt that says, "Women: Preaching and Pastoring Since AD 1" in your preferred size (XS-XL)
a lenticular magnet that changes between the women featured on the cover for Becoming the Pastor's Wife
You can find out how to claim your pre-order bonuses here. All pre-orders (those already placed and those placed before book release) are eligible, while supplies last (although they are limited to those in U.S. and Canada). If you haven’t pre-ordered yet, you can do so anywhere books are sold!
Fabled (my local bookstore in Waco, TX)—stay tuned for announcements about a book launch event that might include another of your favorite authors :).
More soon! Until then, be free.
Both are required to obey their local superior; in
Dorothy's case it's her husband.
It seems pretty clear that the t-shirts are intended and sized for women - any thoughts 💭 of opening those up for men’s sizes??
