Man, who is cutting onions in my house at this hour?!? What a powerful, personal, message. Thank you for sharing it with us.

What a reminder not to allow the opinions of people who don’t know us— they might know OF us, but they don’t actually KNOW us— to have too much power in our lives.

Beautifully written, Beth. Only God knows everything about us, and that's as it should be. I am glad to know your son not only survived a terrible crash, but immediately ran to help another person. I bet he gets that compassion from his parents.

Thank you for your story, for your writing in general and your point of view of women, our holiness and capability all made in his image. I first heard you on an episode of Viral Jesus. That day on my walk I thought finally! Someone like me. Feminism is not against God or his creation of us, I think we are finally waking up to our place and worth in his kingdom.

I never gave birth. At 36, I married a widower with 2 children (David, 12. Christine, 10) and raised them. David died on Father's Day, 1994 in a roll over accident after attending a Pink Floyd concert. He was the only one involved and was very drunk. I wasn't the best adoptive mom, I was pretty bad actually. I never screamed, never disciplined, rarely refused yet mostly with a grudging attitude. I made meals, did laundry, cleaned; tried to help them with gaining experience to be adults. I still feel moments of guilt 30 years later about his death. Our 46 y/o daughter is a productive mom of a10 and 12 year old. She is a far better mother with far more expectations that I ever dared be. She quit attending church when she met her husband. I'm glad your children are healthy and safe. Hold them lightly yet tightly.💗💗

Thank you Beth. We have two kids too and several years ago we almost lost our son. I still remember the trail of blood that went into A&E at the hospital. I understand the four plates at the table. And the grace and mercy of God.
