Thank you, Beth, this is exactly what I needed. I have 45 minutes of Michigan sunlight left, I’m going into my backyard with my golden retriever and removing weeds trying to circle the short-lived welcome into springtime that are beautiful purple Iris. If I listen to anything, it’ll be Sting or Mark Knopfler, but most certainly not a podcast. If I get writing ideas, those things I have such a hard time turning off, I suppose I’ll pray and turn up the music.
I hear you, so much to say but it’s hard to get going. It’s fall where I am (NZ), all the turning leaves and colours are also beautiful. It’s worth pausing to take it all in
The flowers are more beautiful because they have had a time of rest. Your writing will be as well. If it becomes a frenetic exercise of producing over and over, then depth is lost, the pondering that is such an integral part of good writing doesn't have time to nurture the words, and some of the creativity is lost.
Same friend! I have found writing sermons overwhelmingly difficult to a congregation split over political differences but learning to worship in our diversity. Barbara Taylor Brown, you and others keep inspiring the words of truth.
I so appreciate the pictures of your garden. I love to watch what happens in my little flower bed. I call it my Holy Spirit garden, it has a mind of its own. Things I have planted migrate to where they want to be. So I chuckled when you said you have an accident sunflower. PERFECT!!! The sort of surprise I love.
I have had your Sept 2025 post Do We Really Have to Justify Women's Right to Vote on my browser tabs for months. And wondering what makes some people care for other people and what makes some people so heart less. I can understand completely losing focus to write. We will be here when you get fired up again. Enjoy your little sacred space.
Wow what a lovely garden. That pic with the wall and magenta colored blooms looks so Texas... Don't worry about post quantity. Pretty sure most all of us subscribe because we believe in you and what you're doing, and not because we expect weekly content. I'm looking forward to the scarlet book you're helping to launch - and I'm sure our brilliant bespectacled friend will welcome the support. I think this one's gonna have some laddish bearded men seeing scarlet...

I’m so glad it helped you! Enjoy the sunlight.

It is indeed.

I have learned these past few years how important rest is for writing.

I wish I could hear your sermons! We need to come back to Marfa!
"He has made everything beautiful in its time" (Ecc 3:11a). Enjoy your times and seasons.

I’m so glad that post helped! Thank you!
The world is so loud right now. Glad you took the breath, and grateful for your books.
Thank you!
I’m looking forward to what you have to say!!
Thank you!
Echoes similar tensions I’ve felt, and I’m here to say I’m so glad you’re watching your garden! 🙂
