When y'all spoke at the end of the 3rd episode about women who left the denomination, the tears just flowed. As a PK of SBC Senior I was deterred from seminary but eventually left the denomination that raised me- to serve as a minister in the Christian tradition church.
Now, after two decades, I have had to watch women on team be stripped of their titles by former SBC pastors who are now serving in these churches as they return these once affirming churches, back to their roots of Complementarianism. These teachings at conferences, podcasts and resources are influencing other denominations to these interpretations of scriptures to exclude women from leadership.
Confession:
I also had to address my own ignorance in having NO idea that there are Baptist Women communities FOR women in ministry. My own childhood experiences with women's groups, kept me from learning that there are women that are obedient to the callings on their life by God AND are Baptist.
Annnddddd....I was officially accepted to Seminary this week. At a Baptist seminary. At 54. After deep hurt. After trying everything else. This is my next best step. To be who I was created to be. To serve and love others. Terrifying AND exciting.
Re: "the listener seeking evidence of Blacks being barred from white worship services. Carolyn Renée Dupont's thoroughly researched book, Mississippi Praying, provides many instances of this and other forms of discrimination of white churches toward Blacks. BTW my Pastor's Wife book is due to arrive this week ...
I’ve been listening to ATBW. I read your profoundly helpful The Making of Biblical Womanhood and was looking forward to this podcast when I heard about it. I don’t think anything can truly shock me about the toxicity of evangelicalism, and yet Episode 4 and the story of Christa Brown peeled back a layer of evil that was disturbing and sad and (mostly) infuriating.
This is good and healing work you and Savannah are doing (and shout out to TBFNP). There must be no going back, even as the SBC and so many evangelicals attempt to do so.
Much respect and power to all of you fighting publicly for the oppressed.
Can't wait for episode 3!
yay!
